Both of these characters are iconic to the comic  book franchise and film industry. Their visual designs have also gone through  drastic changes. And so have their logos. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It is also interesting to see how their logos have become  more elaborate and intricate over the years. Batman\u2019s bat emblem has changed  over 30 times while Superman\u2019s iconic \u2018S\u2019 and shield symbol has changed over 25  times.<\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-top:40px; margin-bottom:40px;\" align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/logos\/search?utm_source=batman-vs-superman-logo&amp;utm_medium=topbutton&amp;utm_campaign=ctatracking\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"cta-button\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Online Logo Maker<\/a><\/div>\n<p>Why does the comic book and film industry modify the logos  of its most iconic characters at all? It  was a far cry from the diamond shaped symbol that fans are familiar with today.  The first logo was shaped like a police badge and had a simple \u201cS\u201d in the  middle.<\/p>\n<p>Since Superman stands for truth and justice, the police  badge shape doesn\u2019t really come as a surprise. Why was it so simple? It should  be noted that this Superman\u2019s first appearance which means that the storyline  was pretty basic. &nbsp;So, it\u2019s not  surprising why the hero\u2019s first logo had a basic design too.<\/p>\n<p>You can see how different the logo from 1938 is from Superman\u2019s  latest logo in \u2018Batman V Superman\u2019 &#8211;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/history-of-the-superman-logo.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/history-of-the-superman-logo.jpg\" alt=\"History of the Superman Logo\" title=\"History of the Superman Logo\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6658\" width=\"600\" height=\"\"><\/a><br \/>\nImage Source: Maurice Mitchell\/DeviantArt<\/p>\n<p>Comic book expert <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metropolisplus.com\/superman\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\"><strong>Brian G. Philbin<\/strong><\/a> says that  the hero\u2019s symbol was drawn inconsistently at first \u2013<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSuperman\u2019s symbol has become recognizable all over the world. The \u201cS\u201d initially stood for Superman. However, in \u2018Superman: Birthright,\u2019 it was revealed that the symbol actually represented the hero\u2019s Kryptonian family crest.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.supermanhomepage.com\/comics\/comics.php?topic=articles\/the-s-story\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Barry Frieman<\/strong><\/a> explains &#8211;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c\u2026ask Brian Singer, the director of 2006\u2019s \u2018Superman Returns\u2019 and he\u2019ll tell you\u2026that the Superman suit \u2018he (Supey) wears is a remnant of that world (Krypton)\u2026\u2019 Singer apparently bases that opinion on 1978\u2019s \u201cSuperman: The Movie\u201d in which the costume is Kryptonian fabric and the \u2018S\u2019 emblem is a family crest worn by Superman\u2019s biological father, Jor El\u2026While the comic book\u2019s explanation for the \u2018S\u2019 is different from the movie\u2019s explanation\u2026Mark Waid\u2019s recent revamp of Superman\u2019s origin in \u2018Superman Birthright\u2019 tied the \u2018S\u2019 to Krypton, effectively unifying the different media interpretations for the \u2018S.\u2019\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Julian-Darius.jpg\" alt=\"Julian Darius\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6667\" width=\"700\" height=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Julian-Darius.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Julian-Darius-300x47.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Julian-Darius-500x79.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>1996\u2019s Black Logo Represents A Dark Period In Superman\u2019s Life<\/h2>\n<p>Superman\u2019s story took a darker turn in 1996\u2019s \u2018Kingdom Come.\u2019 And so did his symbol&#8230;  This series represented a dark period in Superman\u2019s life, so the black symbol fits.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Supermans-story-took-a-darker-turn.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Supermans-story-took-a-darker-turn.png\" alt=\"Supermans story took a darker turn\" title=\"Supermans story took a darker turn\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6668\" width=\"600\" height=\"\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Founder of Sequant Organization <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JulianDarius\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Julian Darius<\/strong><\/a> elaborates-<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSet in the future, the story begins with Superman having retired in the wake of a new wave of violent heroes \u2013 and Lois Lane\u2019s death\u2026.The story really gets going as a group of violent super-heroes irresponsibly pursue a super villain. Cornered, the villain literally tears the hero Captain Atom apart, causing a nuclear explosion that renders much of the American Midwest \u2013 including Kansas, Superman\u2019s boyhood home \u2013 a radioactive wasteland\u2026Spurred by the destruction of Kansas, Superman comes out of retirement. Emblematic of his new darkness, he changes his chest logo to give it a black background.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Sidney-Fussel.jpg\" alt=\"Sidney Fussel\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6660\" width=\"700\" height=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Sidney-Fussel.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Sidney-Fussel-300x47.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Sidney-Fussel-500x79.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Batman\u2019s 1940 Logo Resembled Himself<\/h2>\n<p>Batman\u2019s earlier logos resembled the caped crusader himself as is apparent from the bat logo from1940.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Batmans-1940-Logo.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Batmans-1940-Logo.png\" alt=\"Batmans 1940 Logo\" title=\"Batmans 1940 Logo\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6661\" width=\"600\" height=\"\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Why was it designed this way? Remember, this was a time when batman did not have high tech gadgets or armor. Audiences recognized him by his cowl and cape. The artists clearly had this in mind when they designed the logo. All audiences saw was a man in a cowl and cape.<\/p>\n<p>Tech insider contributor <a href=\"https:\/\/about.me\/sidney_fussell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Sidney Fussel<\/strong><\/a> explains how this  logo fits Batman\u2019s earlier image \u2013<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe original \u2018batman\u2019 logo resembled a man in a cape. It\u2019s a bit bulky but fit the time period where he was wearing a costume instead of hi-tech armor.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Another Character Takes On Batman\u2019s Identity In 1993<\/h2>\n<p>Future renditions of the bat logo do away with the cowl  altogether and featured bat ears, wings and a tail. It became popular with the  90\u2019s spin of animated series. Here is Sidney Fussel\u2019s take on 1992\u2019s version of the bat logo \u2013<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis probably looks the most familiar. This particular design introduced in \u2018Batman Returns,\u2019 is well balanced and reappeared a lot during the \u201890s animated spin offs.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/1992-Version-Bat-Logo.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/1992-Version-Bat-Logo.png\" alt=\"1992 Version Bat Logo\" title=\"1992 Version Bat Logo\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6662\" width=\"600\" height=\"\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is another version of the bat logo in 1993.The ears,  tail and wings are there, but have a more elongated design.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/bat-logo-in-1993.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/bat-logo-in-1993.png\" alt=\"bat logo in 1993\" title=\"Bat Logo In 1993\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6663\" width=\"600\" height=\"\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to Sidney  Fussel this design also fits the story that  featured it \u2013<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cFrom \u2018Knightfall\u2019 comic series, this logo stands out from the rest because of the radically curved wings. In \u2018Knightfall,\u2019 Wayne is succeeded as Batman by Azrael.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Batman VS Superman \u2013 Dawn Of Justice 2016<\/h2>\n<p>Warner Brothers combined two superheroes in one logo design in \u2018Dawn of Justice\u2019. This shouldn\u2019t come as a surprise since the story pits both heroes against each other.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Batman-vs-Superman-2016-Logo.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.designmantic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Batman-vs-Superman-2016-Logo.png\" alt=\"Batman vs Superman 2016 Logo\" title=\"Batman vs Superman 2016 Logo\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6669\" width=\"600\" height=\"\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Take a look at both of these symbols. Superman\u2019s symbol still retains its original design but the same cannot be said for Batman\u2019s symbol. The bat symbol is clearly bulkier than some of its sleeker and more popular predecessors.<\/p>\n<p>Some fans have noticed this too and aren\u2019t too thrilled with the design \u2013<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">I&#8217;m super stoked for Dawn of Justice&#8230;.
